Book Review: Poorly Made in China by Paul Midler (Read via Physical Book)
What an interesting book about Chinese Manufacturing Movement. The book evolves around the challenges of getting things made in China. The relationship that trader (importer, ie the middle man between walmart and the supplier) and the manufacture has was very insightful. The word Ethics was I believe not used in the book but may as well should have. Things like sanitation. At first, when the maker is wooing the buyer, all the stops are pulled out, wash up, covered everything, all around clean. Then after a return after they got going, all of that was out the door.
An intresting example was a discussion they had with the factory owner had over a worked that had an allergic reaction to the product he was mixing. The owner did not see the medial logic of pulling that worker from that area, instead he thought, well the product he was mixing caused the issue, so everything is fine.
The largest point however how these suppliers cut corners way after the order is signed. I related to that. Common things like retooling the plastic mold so it uses half the plastic (thus a cap breaking off). short filling, and using up old container/labels even after a serious flaw have been discovered.
This book was overall a great fast read. It was my perfect kind of book, and very much in a story telling type form to get the lessons out. Definitely Recommended, a solid 9/10.
